De-addiction Treatment
De-addiction refers to the recovery process concerned with abstaining from addictive substances like drugs, tobacco or alcohol. The idea is to manage the individual’s physical as well as psychological dependence on the substance.
The treatment approach to De-addiction consists of:
- Detoxification: It is typically the first step towards de-addiction, the goal is to stop the usage of substances and manage the withdrawal symptoms, both physical and psychological. It is best done by reducing the intake dose and using prescribed medication to manage symptoms.
- Receiving external support for cessation or management of withdrawal symptoms.
- Abstinence: It is the practice of restraining oneself from indulging in addictive substances and altering the environment in such a way that there is little or no access to the addictive substance.
- Psychotherapy for dealing with mental health concerns experienced, initially to manage
withdrawal, followed by maintenance of motivation to stay removed of the substance. - Focusing on physical activity, relaxation and emphasizing a healthy diet.
- Dealing with cravings and triggers through psychotherapeutic assistance.
- Support group: It involves meeting other people with similar concerns and sharing
experiences. It boosts motivation and reduces the feeling of loneliness. - Relapse Prevention and measures for overall lifestyle changes and recovery.
