Online Therapy
Online Therapy
As the world becomes busier and fast paced, it brings with it certain advantages and disadvantages, of the latter, one being life on the go, and certain stressors. For some, the indicators could be more visible and physical, which could include physical concerns like- blood pressure, migraine, fluctuating blood sugar levels, back and other postural issues, etc. While for some it could be more insidious but equally if not more detrimental, mental and emotional concerns like – anxiety, depression, loss of motivation, difficulty in concentration, difficulty in interpersonal relationships, burnout, etc.
Talking to family or friends about personal concerns may help to a certain extent but may also act as a barrier to openly discussing the issues due to feelings of judgment or bias. Addressing concerns with a trained mental health professional provides a safe, non-judgmental space making the process easier and more comfortable.
Benefits of seeking therapy:
- Opportunity to reflect and process the thoughts and feelings.
- Dealing with emotions effectively.
- Helps gain insight and clarity.
- Coping skills to empower positive change.
- Greater self esteem and decreased anxiety or mental health issues.
What are we providing:
We aim to provide counselling sessions as per the client’s requirements with customized therapeutic management plans. All requirements are taken into consideration, be it individual, child, adolescent, adult, marital, parental or geriatric. The approach of the sessions taken keeps in mind the age, the immediate goals of the client and the larger goal for their overall well being. We offer psychological support through thorough investigation and customized intervention plans, catering to the presenting concerns, needs and personal strengths of the client.
At Veda, we have a team of psychologists with a variety of experience as well as approaches, which are effective and solution focused.
Our Therapeutic approach:
The primary focus of psychotherapy will hence be from a combined Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) plus Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) perspective.
CBT helps people to become aware of inaccurate or distorted thinking patterns so that they can view challenging situations more clearly and respond to them more effectively.
DBT includes four behavioural skill modules, with two acceptance-oriented skills (mindfulness and distress tolerance) and two change-oriented skills (emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness).
Our Plan of Action
Therapy sessions will be for one hour twice a week in English, Gujarati, Marathi, Hindi and Kannada. This can vary according to individual needs and availability. The plan for 2 months and 3 months will be based on this structure and can be elaborated by the therapist as per client requirements.
- Week 1
- Week 2
- Week 3
- Week 4
Session 1
- Assess client concerns through history taking
- Orient the client to CBT and DBT
Session 2
- Experience reality and increase awareness with Mindfulness
Week 1 (2 sessions)
The 1st session will start with history taking and rapport formation. Our therapist will engage with the client to know their thought processes to identify distortions in thinking patterns. Mindfulness training will help the client to increase their awareness about their thoughts and emotions. They would be guided by the therapist to reframe those thoughts to be more positive and productive through mindfulness listening, mindfulness breathing and mindfulness observation. Engaging in this therapeutic process will help to increase the client’s focus and make them more grounded.
The focus of this stage is stabilization. In therapy, people may be dealing with suicidal ideations, self-harm behaviors, stress or addiction. They often report feeling like they are at an all-time low point in their daily lives. Hence, our therapy is centered on safety and crisis intervention. Our therapist’s goal in this stage is to help people achieve some control over their problematic behaviors.
Session 3
- Guided Discovery & Emotional Regulation
Session 4
Exposure Therapy & ABC model
Week 2 (2 sessions)
The 2nd-week sessions will focus on Guided Discovery in which the therapist will help the client to identify and focus on the problem situations. This will be centered around emotion regulation wherein the client will learn to identify emotions and reason them out as to why they have been feeling certain emotions. This will help them to understand the difference between negative and positive emotions.
Upon consistent practice of emotional identification and management, they will learn healthy strategies to acknowledge and accept their emotions. Once the client learns to successfully identify different emotions, they will learn to regulate these feelings and learn techniques to replace negative emotions with healthy positive ones. This will be done through intensive interaction during sessions combined with exercises such as journaling, identifying emotions, understanding the ABC model and doing homework, which would require self-work and analysis.
(The above section is factually incorrect. Exposure and response prevention is specifically used to treat OCD and it involves exposing the person the specific situation or people and preventing their response of compulsive behavior that they engage in)
Session 5
Cognitive Restructuring & Activity Scheduling
Session 6
Skill building & Progressive Relaxation Therapy
Week 3 (2 sessions)
The 3rd-week of therapy will focus on cognitive restructuring and activity scheduling in which our treatment will focus on finding and altering distorted thoughts to make them more adaptive and reasonable. Clients will identify and schedule helpful behaviors which they connect with. This can include engaging in hobbies or activities, along with using relaxation and stress reduction techniques such as Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR), deep breathing exercises, muscle relaxation, and imagery.
In this stage, our therapist will focus on enhancing the quality of life through maintenance of progress and reasonable goal-setting. The goal of this stage is to promote positive emotions like happiness and to maintain stability.
Session 7
Behavioural Experiments, Roleplaying and Distress tolerance
Session 8
Constructive end of sessions and helping client with techniques to maintain changes.
Week 4 (2 sessions)
During this stage, our therapists will support the clients to advance in their lives by practicing acceptance and being tolerant of various triggers. The goal of this stage will be to help the clients to identify ambiguous triggers and to develop tolerance in order to be happy and to have stability in their lives
